about

Sole Power is… damn, come to think of it I’m not exactly sure how to label this. Dope, hip-hop in its purest form! If this were heroin, it wouldn’t be that bullshit that’s been stepped on ten times. No, not this. This is the shit that is so pure you can smoke it. Unadulterated, pure hip-hop. The minute you hear songs like Searching and begin to think that you can classify and box this artist into a “back-packer” or “conscience” label is the very minute that he decides to defy what you think he is and break into some soulful, playful, elegant, lyrical, braggadocio and swag laced song like Jazz Under City Lights, or Crown Royal. But even then, it’s still not the same wobbling heavy bass, hi-hat driven trap sort of swag that we’re all getting use to (and tired of for that matter). And songs like From The Very Bottom of My Soul and 3 Minutes and Some Change, the kind of songs that raise goose bumps on your skin, reaffirm the existence of something “real” beyond what can be seen or heard, but what is felt. Damn, WTF do you call this? Whatever you do choose to call this, just don’t call it, or compare it to the same shit that your use to. This is something else… It’s like what you would expect from a child who was raised by Nas and Lauryn Hill, with uncles like B.I.G, Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah or Andre 3000, aunts like Jill Scott or Erykah Badu, and grandparents like Miles Davis on one side, and Earth Wind & Fire on the other. With siblings like Skyzoo, Big K.R.I.T, J.Cole and Rhapsody, growing up as if life were a movie and 9th Wonder produced the score for the soundtrack. Do you remember the movie Fresh (some of you may be too young for that)? Yeah, this is like the little dude from Fresh, all grown up and spitting like the reincarnation of Pun! Whatever this is, enjoy.
